Planning and recording planting jobs in Sirrus is simple to complete but before we get into the steps to create a planting job, it is important to understand the various work states in Sirrus.
Understanding Work States in Sirrus
Work States in Sirrus allow you to follow the flow of data throughout the season all within your Sirrus account. The four work states in Sirrus are Planned, Recommendation, Work Order and Work Record.
Planned: Used as a pre-season work state for future activities.
Recommendations: This work state is used for activities that you will suggest to your growers for them to implement in the coming season. These will show in your Sirrus account as Pending Recs.
Work Order: Activities or jobs classified as a work order have been agreed upon between the grower and agronomist. Work Orders can be shared to other sync accounts for transparency and further action.
Work Record: The job or activity is either in progress or has been completed in the field. This is the final work state and they will fall under the Completed tile in the Jobs window.
Editors Tip: Ideally an activity created will start in either the Planned or Recommendation Work State but it is not required. A job or activity can be created initially under any of the work states above. The work states are simply a guide that can be used for tracking which jobs have been recommended, planned or completed for your growers.
Creating a Planting Job in Sirrus Mobile
A planting job can be started from any level in Sirrus Mobile, in practice though most planting jobs will be started from either the Farm or Field level. In Sirrus, you have a number of options to complete a planting activity. The options include:
Straight rate whole field
Multi Polygon Field planting
Multi Field Straight rate
Planting with Management Zones and surface layers
In the below scenario, we will cover the steps to complete a straight rate whole field planting job starting from the field level.
In your Sirrus account, navigate to the field you will be working with. Click the orange plus (+) button and select Planting from the activity list.
You will be prompted to choose one of the four work states that we covered above, the two that you will choose most often will be the Planned or Recommendation work state but any can be used to get started.
Once you have selected the work state, enter in the details for the crop being planted. The data fields you will want to be sure to complete are the Crop, Seed Company, Variety/Hybrid, and Seeding Rate. If a Crop, Seed Company, Variety/Hybrid, etc. are not included in your Short List pick list, tap the plus sign to access the comprehensive list and add it to your Short List.
Other data fields could be beneficial for historical data in following years or would be useful in Reports, either internally or to be shared with the grower.
When you have completed all of the relevant data boxes for the planting activity, tap the Save button in the top right of your devices screen.
Type in a name for the planting event, double check that the Season is correct and if you would like to change the Work State of the activity; you can do so on this screen as well.
Add any necessary notes and tap Save again to complete the activity.
When you have completed the Planting activity, you will be able to view it immediately on your device. In the top right in the Options drop down, you can create a PDF Quick Report to share, Send via a Data Bullet or Shapefile, Create a Management Zone, or Edit the planting job. You can also view the details of the planting event for quick reference when talking with your grower about additional management recommendations.
